Summary of ideas submitted in the Policy category…
- A comprehensive reform of the public sector, ranging from payroll, pensions, benchmarking and public spending is needed.
- A simple inclusion to be made in the contracts/terms of employment/office stating “I am honest, I will not steal, I will not damage my employer, I will not damage the economy of my country or its reputation and I have disclosed all relevant information of my past business and private life to the appointing body.”
- Abolish copyright and patent monopolies.
- Abolish interest relief on landlords’ income from rented property.
- Abolish pension levy and lump sum on retirement for public servants.
- Abolish public sector pensions.
- Abolish the ceiling on PRSI.
- Abolish the current car tax system and instead collect motor taxes from the sale of petrol/diesel.
- Abolish the National Oil Reserve Agency and reduce the cost of fuel.

- Add 1 cent tax to the cost of text messages.
- Adjust planning policy to incentivise businesses sited in public areas such as city parks, national parks, sea fronts, city squares etc.
- Adopt a gold standard to give a solid anchor to the Irish currency.
- All businesses should pay small amounts to their creditors as and when they can. Their creditors should then make small payments to their suppliers. This would get money moving in the economy again.
- All commercially taxed vehicles should be obliged to display name & contact details.
- All companies should pay a certain amount in a bond to the Government. This could be drawn down if the company finds itself unable to pay debts in the future.
- All Government departments and agencies should switch to email correspondence where possible, cutting down on the costs of paperwork.
- All government ministers should have to submit vouched expenses every month.
- All government officials should fly economy class only on business.
- All money generated by the National Lottery should be given to the exchequer.
- All people should be given a base income. Amounts above this base should be taxed so those earning more pay their base income back in the form of taxation.
- All public sector employees should have their positions frozen and not be allowed switch to different departments unless they complete an interview/examination.
- All school leavers signing on the dole should be required to do voluntary work.
- All state benefits should be taxable as income.
- Allow people to earn up to €20,000 tax free in the year through trading on E-bay, local markets etc
- Allow people to supplement their dole with extra money earned to a certain tax free level.
- Allow people to work a four day week and still claim the dole for the other day of the week.
- Allow public servants the option of not joining the government pension scheme.
- Allow young people to access pension funds for business start-up capital. Also, organisations should be able to apply for lottery funding for specific work programmes or capital purchases.
