Summary of ideas submitted in the Green business category…
- Use mountain streams in North Mayo to build dams and generate hydro electricity. These streams don’t support wildlife so there would be limited environmental impact.
- Use new energy efficient lighting solutions to replace the current older technology used in street lights, hospitals and offices.
- Use off -peak wind energy to electrolyse water and produce hydrogen, react this with recycled CO2, react the rest of the hydrogen with CO in a Fischer-Tropsch reaction, which gives off a large amount of energy.
- Use our natural forestry resources to make Irish fire logs, reduce our dependence on foreign fire logs and possibly export any excess abroad.
- Use roadsides as areas where wind generators could be placed, and the towns where they are placed in or near could get cut rates.
- Use some of the green spaces in our housing estates to put up small wind generators which will feed into the local community.
- Use the Danish wind power model as a benchmark and build Irish wind farms at sea to utilise the winds energy.
- Use the M1 motorway middle section as an area to build wind turbines, as the Government owns this land and planning rejections are less likely. This will cut our reliance on oil and gas.
- Use the SR Technics and Dell factories to produce renewable energy technologies.
- Use the streams around the country to make hydro electric power.
- Utilise Ireland’s wind resources in order to make Ireland less reliant on importing energy generated by the burning of fossil fuels. This will also lead Ireland to be an energy exporter.
- VAT exemptions for VAT registered companies.
- Water saving shower heads and tap aerators should be installed in all buildings that use water. This will lead to savings in energy and water usage
- When a person buys a car from a dealership they should also receive a bike.
- When offices are empty lights should be turned off and the lights that light up a bridge should be turned off as they serve no real purpose.
- Would like to see the introduction of more turbines used to generate energy in
