About
The Ideas Campaign was launched to seek citizens’ ideas for Irish economic recovery and renewal. It set a challenge to people in Ireland to be innovative and creative and to play their part in planning this country’s economic recovery.
Launched on 5 March 2009, the initial phase of the campaign sought people’s ideas to:
- Preserve and grow employment
- Stimulate activity across key areas of the economy
- Make it easier to do business in Ireland
- Enrich local communities
The deadline for submission of ideas was 31 March. The next phase involved the development of an action plan by campaign’s Advisory Group, based on the ideas submitted. This plan is not only for government but for individuals, communities, business and other organisations.
Our campaign motto was simple - no whinging. The Ideas Campaign asked people to be positive, to think about the solutions and not the problems.
We asked people to draw from their own experiences to identify how Ireland can emerge from this recession and, particularly, compete on the world stage and earn export revenues.
Greater understanding
Another objective of the Ideas Campaign was to ensure that everyone understands more about the serious issues that affect the economy.
But we wanted this to be in a language that you understand and in terms that relate to your lives and to those of your family and friends.
With the publication of the action plan, the Ideas Campaign is drawing to a close. However, those involved hope that its spirit, the debate it has generated and indeed the implementation of some of the ideas will carry the campaign forward.
